Phoenix has developed a School to Work Transition Program that is unique and innovative for students with a disability. The program is based on educating students in all aspects of employment and includes on and off-the-job training.
Traditional work experience programs developed by Australian Disability Enterprises in Australia have only delivered work outcome with limited success for students that have basic skills and are generally mature enough and work ready. The Phoenix School to Work Transition Program has enabled students who in the past would have been deemed unemployable to reach new levels of competency and confidence to be able to make informed decisions with parents about pathways to their future.
The program provides students with an opportunity to understand what employment is, the requirements that would be placed on them and also have the learning’s credited to their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
Each week the classes that attend our facilities are supported by training staff that spend a minimum of one hour either formally or informally covering all aspects of workplace knowledge. These include topics such as:
- General Safety Awareness
- Quality Training
- Forklift Safety Awareness
- Manual / Material Handling
- Health and Hygiene
- Disability Standards.
Our long term vision is to provide School to Work Transition students the opportunity to participate in accredited certificate programs that will enable suitable candidates to progress into mainstream employment.
