Dr Graeme Bethune

Dr Graeme Bethune has been a member of the Phoenix Board since 2000 and Chairman since 2009. He also chairs the Board’s Marketing and Public Relations Committee.

He has over 30 years experience in senior positions in energy, finance and the public sector.

Since 2005 he has been Chief Executive Officer of EnergyQuest, a company that undertakes energy analysis and strategy consulting for many of the world’s major oil and gas companies.

He is a Director of the Australian Gas Industry Trust. In this capacity he regularly represents Australia in international meetings of the global gas industry.

Dr Bethune has served on many government, commercial and not-for-profit boards and currently serves on the Advisory Board of the University of Adelaide Business School. Between 2007 and 2010 he was Chairman of the South Australian Branch of the Australian Institute of Energy.

Prior to founding EnergyQuest Dr Bethune held senior executive positions in finance, business development and investor relations with Santos, one of Australia’s leading energy companies.

Earlier he held the positions of head of Bank SA Treasury, head of the South Australian Government Financing Authority and South Australian Assistant Under Treasurer.

Dr Bethune has a first-class honours degree in economics from Monash University and a PhD in Urban Research from the Australian National University. He has undertaken the executive program at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University and is a Fellow of the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants and of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (from which he also a graduate of the Company Directors Course).

Obtained his MBBS from the University of Adelaide in 1981 and specialist qualifications in both Anaesthesia (1986) and Intensive Care (1989). Gained tertiary aerospace medicine qualification from the University of Otago in 2000 and completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Adelaide in 2009.

Joined the Consultant Staff of the RAH in 1989 and assumed his current position as the Director of the Trauma Service in 1995. Major areas of clinical interest relate to acute trauma, disaster/mass casualty management and prehospital care, including retrievals and patient transport. He also has strong interests in aviation/aerospace medicine, injury prevention and governance. In 2004 he conceived and created the Roads2Survival young driver road safety program.

Hon Lyn Breuer, MP

Lyn represents the electoral district of Giles in the South Australian House of Assembly for the Australian Labor Party. Breuer became the first woman to be appointed Speaker of the South Australian House of Assembly following the 2010 election.

Before entering Parliament at the 1997 election, Ms Breuer was a lecturer in Women’s Studies and Vocational Education at the Spencer Institute of TAFE. She was Junior Vice President of the Australian Labor Party.

Ms Breuer is the only Labor member of the House of Assembly who represents a state electorate in country South Australia.

Ms Amanda Heyworth

Amanda has co-founded a software company that sold software to more than 60 countries, held strategy roles at the Australian Stock Exchange and the Wallis Inquiry into the Financial System and taught at the Australian Graduate School of Management. Her experience as an accountant, an investment banker and economic adviser in Australia and the US gives her a broad background in business strategy, finance and marketing. She has particular expertise in helping companies develop, test and execute plans for entry into new markets. She is also a board member of the Australian Centre for Renewable Energy and SA Lotteries

Mr Donald McGurk

Donald holds a Masters Degree in Mechanical Business Administration from Adelaide University and completed an Advanced Management Program at Harvard University in 2010. He was appointed as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Codan group in 2010.

Donald joined Codan in 2000 as General Manager of Group Manufacturing. Under his leadership Codan developed its own highly efficient and responsive manufacturing capability, and expanded capacity by creating a very successful outsourcing relationship with manufacturing partner in Malaysia. In addition to his manufacturing role, from 2005 to 2007 Donald held executive responsibility for sales of all Codan communications products, and from 2007 to 2010, executive responsibility for business performance of the company's HF radio products. In this role he led the penetration of HF products into important new market segments for Codan.

Donald came to Codan with an extensive background in change management applied to manufacturing operations, and held senior manufacturing positions in several industries.

 

Mr Ian Stone

Ian Stone was appointed Managing Director of the RAA in August 2009 and was formerly Chief Executive from August 2007. Mr Stone is a Director of RAA Insurance Ltd, the Australian Automobile Association, Australian Motoring Services Pty Ltd and its subsidiaries, Club Consortium Pty Ltd, AAA Tourism Pty Ltd, and AAA Travel Pty Ltd. Mr Stone was General Manager of RAA Insurance Ltd and before joining the RAA, was Head of International for the Insurance Australia Group (IAG) and responsible for managing operations and investments in China and Thailand and relationships in Japan. Prior to this, he oversaw health insurance operations nationally and for home and motor insurance business in SA, WA and Queensland. Ian has also worked as Manager Group Strategy for SGIO Insurance Ltd, and Chief Executive Officer of the South Australian Motor Accident Commission. He is a member of the South Australian Compulsory Third Party Premiums Committee and the SA Government’s Road Safety Advisory Council.
